"Jedi Action Drawing" is a dynamic interactive video installation that pays homage to Jackson Pollock's action painting and the kinetic movements of a Jedi fighter wielding a lightsaber. Spanning from 2013 to 2015, this project seamlessly integrates the artistry of saber combat with the spontaneity of abstract expressionism.
At its core, "Jedi Action Drawing" utilizes a mini lightsaber prop in conjunction with a Wiimote (Nintendo remote controller) to capture the performer's movements in real-time. Each swing, twist, and flourish of the saber is translated into an intricate Indian ink-style drawing. The velocity of the saber dictates the finesse of the strokes, while its orientation controls the rotation and direction of the artwork.
Through this fusion of martial arts choreography and visual artistry, "Jedi Action Drawing" invites participants to embark on a kinetic journey where every gesture becomes a brushstroke on the canvas of the installation. The result is a mesmerizing exploration of movement, creativity, and the symbiotic relationship between technology and art.
